The program leader on the trip will be Dr. Peter Baird - CSU Sacramento Associate Professor of Bilingual/Multicultural Education and co-author of Beyond the Border: Mexico and the U.S. Today. Dr. Baird, along with Mexican experts in their fields, will supplement your language study with a seminar on current issues in Mexican education. Special Seminar for Teachers of English as a Second Language and Others with Latino Students in the Classroom

Two week program with Dr. Maria Chairez, Clark County,Nevada

Saturday, June 21, to Saturday, July 5, 2008

Description: This course offers participants a rigorous academic program at Cemanahuac which includes two weeks of intensive Spanish instruction (45 hours total), three field study excursions, several lectures, a visit to a Mexican public school, additional lectures on current events and Mexican culture, farewell dinner at a local hacienda, visit to a social service program, a home stay with a carefully selected Mexican family. Teachers at all levels of Spanish ability can benefit from this program. The ultimate goal is to equip participants with firsthand skills, experiences, and oral fluency in Spanish, thus enabling greater proficiency in meeting the needs of the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S. Latinos. Most school systems will accept this academic work for Professional Development Credit, and TESOL credit also available from Sierra Nevada College. Additional fees will apply for graduate credit.
