Ecology of Mexico: Conservation in Mexico and the Nature Conservance Jeff Danter, PhD. July 10 - 24, 2010 |
Cemanahuac is looking forward to having Jeff Danter, PhD., with us in July. Dr. Danter is the state director of the Florida chapter of the Nature Conservancy and is a well-known speaker on issues relating to the acquisition of land areas for conservation, as well as marine and wildlife habitat protection.
While studying Spanish with us, Jeff will give several informal lectures/discussion presentations on the work of the Nature Conservancy and United States cooperation with Mexican and Latin American conservation efforts. Some of the special efforts of these joint ecological efforts in Mexico include marine protection in the Gulf of Mexico, the conservation of the Mayan forest and development of the Jaguar Preserve along the northern Mexican border.
Jeff’s wife, Elizabeth Danter, PhD,, will also be studying Spanish with us, along with their 8- year-old son, John. Liz is a consultant with the Institute for Learning Innovation, and while she will not give formal presentations, she has offered to meet informally with groups of teachers or others who want to discuss educational opportunities beyond the classroom, in museums, libraries, and other free choice learning institutions.
The Danters will be at Cemanahuac from July 10 -- 24, 2010,and all three of them are looking forward to learning more about the culture of Mexico and improving their Spanish.

Discover the Toltecs, Maya, Aztec, and Olmecs at Cemanahuac
The Toltecs? The Maya? The Aztec? And the “mother culture” of Mesoamerica, the Olmecs? Who are are these groups, and what were their contributions to the modern world? And what was their relationship, if any, to each other?
Each of these cultures inhabited the area known as Mesoamerica at different times, dating back prior to 1400 BC, and each had unique languages and customs.
Modern scholars and archeologists have spent their entire lives studying these cultures, and at Cemanahuac during June and July, 2009, Cemanahuac will be offering a discussion / seminar-format class on the history of Mesoamerica. >> More...
