the city of eternal spring

Over one million students are educated at home. (U.S. Department of Education). The Institute of Education Sciences released a report dated July 2004, stating that researchers believe that homeschooling has grown about 7% per year during the past five years.
Parents provide homeschooling for their children for a variety of reasons, but in all cases, regardless of background or educational levels, parents believe they can offer a firmer educational foundation for their children than can be found in the local schools. Parents are committed to these educational endeavors and are highly involved in the learning process along with their children.
The spirit and philosophy of language education at the Cemanahuac Educational Community is particularly well matched to the educational philosophy of most students who are homeschooled. Our very small classes and our interest in providing a broad and personalized educational program is exactly to what parents of homeschooled students are seeking. At Cemanahuac parents can study right along with their students, and together they can enjoy the excitement and cross cultural richness of a study abroad experience.
Most high school educators who come to Cemanahuac believe that a three-week study program at Cemanahuac can be considered to be the equivalent of a semester in high school Spanish. The inclusion of the culture of Mexico and Mesoamerica in all aspects of our curriculum enriches the total experience in a way that is possible only in Cemanahuac’s “total immersion” concept.
At Cemanahuac, we carry out our “family philosophy” in several ways. The first is our emphasis on the importance of the stay with a Mexican family, since we feel this is a primary way to learn Spanish well with constant reinforcement. The second is that we invite whole families to come to Mexico to study with us and we try to make this as economically feasible as possible. And finally, we view those who come to study with us as a ‘family of learners and teachers,” and we encourage close relationships between our well-trained language teachers and our students.
Since language education may be one of the areas where parents feel less adequate to provide the rich cultural and linguistic experience which is the foundation of Cemanahuac’s curriculum, we offer a significant reduction in fees to any students in a homeschooled situation and to their family members who want to learn with them. All homeschooled students and families will receive a reduced registration fee and a discount on their tuition, if they can come to study with us in months other than May, June, and July, when those enrolled in traditional schools attend Cemanahuac. Homeschooled students are welcome to come in the summer months, but we cannot offer the discount at those times.
Please write for details about special programs for groups of homeschool students from a particular area and this discount for students.
