In this last decade of the twentieth century, Mexico and the United States are becoming closer neighbors, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the world of business. In the next few years, with the implementation of NAFTA, we may expect the flow of culture and commerce in both directions to increase dramatically. As industrialists, business people, and consumers engage in more trade, people on both sides of the border will have unprecedented opportunities to learn from one another (P. Heusinkveld, Living, Traveling, and Doing Business in a Changing Society, 1994).
Cemanahuac is ready to meet the challenge of providing stimulating language programs for those who are in business, while at the same time providing seminars in "Learning Essential Skills to Bridge the Gap, Negotiate Differences, and Establish Effective Communication" across cultural barriers. We can handle the language needs of both beginning speakers of Spanish and those with a greater background in the language. We can also address the special vocabulary needs of business people who study with us, and we can provide native speakers in the areas of government regulations, real estate, legal affairs, and business etiquette in Mexico. Cuernavaca has become the home of a number of government agencies and educational facilities, since it is the closest large city to Mexico City. There is a large industrial park in the municipality adjacent to Cuernavaca on the east side of the city, with several international companies located in the CIVAC area. We can provide links with those in similar business endeavors to each of our Cemanahuac students and on-site visits to many of these businesses in Cuernavaca.
For those who want the greatest amount of instruction in a short time, Cemanahuac offers a super-intensive, 40 hour per week tutorial program. We also offer a weekend program for business people who may be in Mexico already and who want to spend a language immersion weekend in colonial Cuernavaca.
Cuernavaca is within easy driving distance of the largest city in the world and within close proximity to the cultural, historic, political, business, and economic heart of the country. Those who have professional and business contacts in the capital city find that public transportation between Cuernavaca and Mexico City is fast, easy, inexpensive, and safe. We feel we have all the advantages of the capital, but we do not have to live there and have to put up with the "hassle" of life in a major metropolis on a daily basis. Those who live and work (and study) in Cuernavaca do not suffer from the feeling of isolation that those who live in other cities farther from the capital may feel.
