Academic Credit for All Ages
If you are preparing to come to Mexico to study at Cemanahuac and are hoping to earn academic credit for this experience, you have several options. First, if you are already enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in a college or university, this is the logical place to start. It is usually easier and less expensive for you to make these arrangements at your home institution, and I will try to send you whatever supporting materials you may need for this. Discuss your plans with your academic advisor and check on the possibility of receiving credit for your work at Cemanahuac from your home institution.
For assistance in obtaining these materials, you can write, fax, or email Vivian Harvey and explain what you need to have in order to receive academic credit. She will get back to you as soon as possible with the appropriate information. Generally, a program of three/four weeks duration will be deemed sufficient for granting of Spanish language credit. In three weeks, you will be in Spanish language classes for 60 hours, at a minimum. Also, it is frequently possible to earn humanities or social science credit for participation in our Latin American studies classes if you decide to narrow your focus to one easily-definable topic, add specific readings to the classroom work, and write a summary paper. She will be happy to suggest topics based on your major field of study and your academic interests.
For teachers or educational administrators enrolled in a graduate education program, I will be happy to work with you prior to your coming to Cemanahuac to develop an independent study project which can be submitted for graduate credit. In the unlikely event that you are not successful in obtaining approval of your study plan at your home institution, or you are not currently enrolled in a degree-granting program, several other schools will grant academic credit for your study with us. Each institution has different fees, deadlines, and expectations, and I ask that you contact each university for information and enrollment materials. An important reminder: all academic credit arrangements must be completed before leaving home. Applications for any of these programs cannot be accepted at Cemanahuac after your program of study begins.
N. B. Any credit which you expect to apply toward a degree at your home institution toward an undergraduate or graduate degree should be approved by faculty members at your home institution prior to enrollment.
